Accepted! Africa-here we come!

Words can not possibly describe the excitement and joy we feel after being accepted with Iris Ministries in Mozambique.

As elementary school teachers, Evan and I love our jobs. Most days we come home and laugh to each other in amazement saying, "I can't believe we got paid to do that." Evan teaches instrumental music and I teach French Immersion. Along we loving our jobs, we also live in a great city where we attend at fantastic church, where both our families lives and where our 4 month-old-niece is growing up. We love Canada.

So why are we moving around the world?
1) Because I once heard of a guy named Jonah who did not obey God when he called and he got swallowed by a whale. We want to follow God wherever He calls. As Diestrick Bonhoeffer writes, "We must be ready to allow ourselves to be interrupted by God....We must not...assume that our schedule is our own to manage, but allow it to be arranged by God"
2) Why Not! Many years ago I was inspired when someone challenged me by saying, "Why do something that others can and will do, when you can do something that others can't and won't do?" We are constantly amazed by the incredible staff that we have the privilege to work and we are all too familiar with the surplus of teachers in Ottawa. So, instead we want to fill a need abroad. Believe it or not, according to UNESCO, there is a worldwide teacher shortage. www.unesco.org
3) Since visiting for a few weeks in 2012, not a day has gone by where I have not thought or dreamt about the day we would finally get to return. To say we are excited is a major understatement. Similarly, I feel like I left a piece my heart in Africa. Despite Canada being my home for my entire life, I can't describe the feeling of peace and joy that I felt as I played in the sand with children, ran after school games, bible studies and discipleship.
